Bundlaoí
/ Eaves

Bundlaoí le balla bloic coincréite.
Eaves with a concrete block wall.

Tá an cuas dúnta le dúntóir cuais dílseánaigh

The cavity is closed with a proprietary cavity closer.

Tá an dúntóir cuais dódhíonach.
The cavity closer is fireproof.

Bundlaoí le balla fráma adhmad.
Eaves with a timber frame wall.

Tá an éadan crochta ag deireadh an rachta agus tá an tarr crochta ag bun an rachta, chun é a chosaint ón aimsir.

The facia is attached to the end of the rafter and the soffit is attached to the bottom of the rafter to protect it from the weather.

Tá an pláta balla fáiscthe leis an balla inmheánach.  Tá na rachtaí crochta leis an bpláta balla ansin.
The wall plate is secured to the internal wall.  The rafter is then attached to the wall plate.

Tá gaoithre bundlaoi ag dul suas idir an insliú agus an fheilt chun spás a chur ar fáil chun aer a ligean isteach.

Gan aer ag scaipeadh san áileár bheadh an adhmad ag lobadh

There is an eaves ventilator going up between the insulation and the felt to leave space and to leave air come in.

Without air spreading around the attic the wood would be decaying.

Tá insliú idir gach giarsa.
There is insulation between every joist.

Tá fleasc lúdraigh ann chun an fheilt dín a choimead díreach agus chun lúbadh laistir den éadan a sheachaint mar bheadh uisce ag bailiú.

There is a tilting fillet to keep the felt straight and stop it sagging behind the facia because water would be gathering.

Tá an pláta balla fáiscthe leis an balla inmheánach.  Tá na rachtaí crochta leis an bpláta balla ansin.
The wall plate is secured to the internal wall.  The rafter is then attached to the wall plate.

An Béal Éin / The Bird's Mouth

Tá píosa beag cosúil le béal éin gearradh amach as na rachtaí.  Déantar é chun ailt teann a fháil idir na rachtaí agus an bpláta balla.

There’s a small piece like a bird’s mouth cut out of the rafters.  This is done to get a tight joint between the rafters and the wall plate.

Caithfidh an béal éin a bheith níos lú ná aon trian de leithead na rachtaí nó beidh sé ró lag.

The bird’s mouth must be less than one third of the width of the rafter or it will be too weak.
